Dancho Atanasov Monte Monte is a suburb, created in 1565 as a residence of many wealthy families, located on a hill north of Funchal – the capital of Madeira Island. It was the last dwelling place of Charles I – the last Austro – Hungarian Emperor, who was expelled and passed away there in 1922. The best way to reach it is the 8 seat cable car and the station is located in the city center in Almirante Reis park.
